Safari Tourism

Cameroon is home to many of Africa’s flag-ship  species: lions, chimpanzees, gorillas, elephants, giraffes,  hippopotami,  rhinoceroses and ostriches. Cameroon has a number of national parks created with the intention of protecting wildlife and flora. In many parts of Africa it is said that the tourists outnumber the animals. Not so in Cameroon, where the visitors are limited and the parks are  many and pristine.

The Waza National Park, which covers an area of 1,700 km2 is a UNESCO biosphere reserve and the most popular destination for safari tourism in the Central African sub region  and is home to the “big five” animals of Africa.

The Benoue National Park contains three important eco-resorts (Campement de Buffle Noir, Campement des Elephants and Campement de Grand Capitain) and contains Hippopotami, large antelopes such as the Derby Eland, waterbucks and Bufon Kobs, a variety of primates, beautiful  birds.

In addition, Cameroon is one of the few countries where gorillas can be visited in their natural habitat. Cameroon is the home to the Lowland Gorilla species who make their home in dense forests  of Takamanda (South West Province), Mengame (South Province) and  Lobeke  (East Province).
